Quick Fix For Scratched Wood Floors

June 12, 2012 1 comment

If your floors get a surface scratch, rub cooking oil in the scratch with a paper towel and wipe off.  This will color the scratch back in.  Remember if the floor is gouged, it will still color in the scratch but it will not alleviate the gouge which you will still see in certain light.

Water-Base Could be Another Option

For those of you who do not have the time to wait for Polyurethane to dry and do not like the odor, we can use a  Latex Finish which drys in one to two hours.

It has 75% less odor and goes very well with your contemporary decor.

The process of water-base does take an extra day to complete because we apply four coats instead of three. The reason is that water-base is a much thinner product.

Do You Have Hardwood Flooring In Connecticut or Massachusetts? Maintenance is KEY!

Mid process of polyurethaning

Our team at Baker Floor Refinishing LLC  has been doing wood floor  refinishing throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts for over 30 years.  Here are some maintenance tips to help keep your floors at their best for years to come.

  • Vacuum as needed, to keep sand, dust, dirt, etc., off your floors.
  • Remember, the more sand between your foot and the floor acts as sandpaper and therefore, wears the finish down at a much faster rate.
  • Do NOT use any chemicals on your floors.  Damp mop or use a cloth (water only) to clean the floors.
  • Re coating your floors is much cheaper and easier than having to sand completely
  • A Re coat is a one day process and should be done when the shine in your traffic areas have dulled.
  • Remember, once the shine dulls then dirt can start to work its way into the grain,\ which will start to turn black and then you have to sand them.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call our team at Baker Flooring LLC  at (860) 684-1309 or in Massachusetts (413) 734-6026.
